The Photo of Zagreb service is the successor to the licegrada.media, which originated from the Lice Grada portal (licegrada.hr) – the starting point of the story behind this vast collection of Zagreb photographs. Without delving too much into history (which you can read more about at fotografijezagreba.hr/fotografije if you understand Croatian), I’d like to focus on the refreshed visual identity of the Photos of Zagreb service.
Although the service has only been around for four years (launched in the Spring of 2021), the website fotografijezagreba.hr has undergone several transformations in both design and functionality. It started as a blog with agency-style announcements of new photos, later evolving into a platform focused solely on updates regarding the growing photo archive, which, as of summer 2024, surpassed 100,000 photos.
With the beginning of 2025, it was time for a new refresh, which now includes closer collaboration with the Lice Grada portal, which will serve as a co-author on fotografijezagreba.hr. This means that in addition to the photo archive, the site will also feature blog posts with interesting articles about the city of Zagreb.
Besides the strengthened partnership between licegrada.hr and fotografijezagreba.hr, along with the updated visual elements, there will be an increased focus on photographic projects, particularly the flagship project, Mapping Zagreb, which has now reached nearly 10,000 photos. In 2025, the focus will remain on photographing Zagreb’s neighborhoods and local councils. Additionally, the Mapping Zagreb website now features a live map showcasing the areas that have already been photographed. Later in the year, a new search system will be launched, offering a more dynamic and visually appealing way to explore the available materials.
While there are already major visual changes in this 8.0 version of fotografijezagreba.hr, minor cosmetic updates will continue to roll out over the next few weeks. However, you can already see 95% of the new visual identity of the Photographs of Zagreb service and portal.
Thank you for following and supporting the growth of this amazing project.
Ivan
