Advent in Zagreb Kicks Off: Top Moments from the Opening Day

It’s that time of year! As far back as I can remember (read: since I started taking photos of Zagreb), the first day of Advent in Zagreb has always been the busiest day of the year. Advent in Zagreb officially started this past weekend, and I was there for the opening ceremony.

The festivities began on the main square in Zagreb, right next to the Manduševac fountain, where the first “candle” on the Advent wreath was lit.

After that, we all headed to the Ice Park on King Tomislav Square to watch The Nutcracker: A Ballet Fairytale on Ice and witness the opening ceremony of the Ice Park.

The third highlight of the Advent kickoff in Zagreb was the lighting of the Christmas lights at Zrinjevac Park.

You can find all these moments – and much more – from the first day (and all the following days) on the Fotografije Zagreba website. In the following weeks, I’ll cover all the locations and many events withing the Christmas theme (Advent in Zagreb), so be sure to check Fotografije Zagreba for the latest photos.
