Capturing Croatia: A Photographic Journey from Trogir to Dubrovnik

Categories:

This trip had been on my mind since my last one-week road trip around a particular part of Croatia back in May 2024. Since I can only travel for more than a week during the summer, I decided to take a six-day road trip at the end of August. I calculated all the expenses and managed my time carefully, but there was one thing I couldn’t control – the weather. Although the first day, Monday, was rainy and the forecast predicted rain for Tuesday and part of Wednesday as well, I got lucky. After Monday, every day was sunny and hot! That felt good! (Well, too hot, but I could live with it, just no rain please.)

Dubrovnik

During those first two days, while the forecast wasn’t on my side, I adjusted my schedule a couple of times, determined my main objectives for the trip, and stressed out quite a bit. My minimum goal, which I would have been satisfied with considering the weather forecast, was to take photos of Makarska (where I had booked my Airbnb), Dubrovnik, and Trogir. Fortunately, I accomplished all of that by Wednesday!

Makarska

On Tuesday, I visited Omiš and Trogir; Wednesday was reserved for Dubrovnik and Ston; Thursday was for the Duare Fortress, Imotski (plus some spots along the way), and Makarska in the afternoon. Friday, the day before I had to return to Zagreb, was reserved for a run/swim session and some relaxation, as the previous days had been really exhausting.

I’m satisfied with the places I visited and the photos I took, but I have to say that Dubrovnik exceeded my expectations. I know I could spend an entire day there with my cameras. This time, I spent only 4 to 4.5 hours, but for a first visit, I think that was enough.

You can find photos of all these cities, fortresses, and other locations within the Showcase pages of the Croatia Captured website. Additionally, some of these photos are available on my Shutterstock account.
