Yes, yes, it’s a huge clickbait title, but I’m not lying! Back in 2014, Top Gear was on tour called Top Gear Live, and they had two events (if I remember correctly) at Arena Zagreb. I had a ticket for the first show and a press pass for the second. My friend and colleague at the time were sitting in the stands, far from the stage, when the organizers decided to rearrange the seating and move us just a few meters from the main stage! We were so excited and couldn’t wait for the show to begin!
I had been a Top Gear fan for ages, and I continued following the famous trio (Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May) when they left the BBC and started The Grand Tour. This is the reason I’m publishing this post – I’ve just watched their final adventure on Amazon Prime, called The Grand Tour: One For The Road, and I wanted to share this experience and these photos.
So, how was the Zagreb show delayed because of me, you’re wondering? Well, as soon as my friend and I started processing the fact that we were going to see our Top Gear heroes live, the PR lady called me just seconds before the show had to start. She informed me that they had decided to allow photographers to take photos during the first show instead of the second, as initially planned. I was shocked because my camera equipment was in the car (yes, really stupid – never leave your gear in the car, you can lose it so easily. Fortunately, I’m a bit smarter today and I don’t do it anymore), and I told her I needed some time to retrieve it.
Fortunately, she said the show would wait for me. After 15 or so minutes, I was back in Arena Zagreb, sitting in the photographer’s pit, and the show could finally begin!
So, here are a few photos from that event – TEN YEARS AGO!
