I’ve been into photography for more than 15 years, but I started taking photos more seriously in 2010 when I got a job at a Croatian photo agency. I always loved taking photos while walking around the city where I live (Zagreb)! Until September 2023, I barely took my cameras while traveling somewhere else, and the sad thing is – I really had nice opportunities to get cool photos from the places I traveled to.
The first time I experienced a free road in front of me and my camera with me was in the spring of 2016 when I decided to spend a week of my vacation traveling around Istria. Why Istria, you may ask? In January 2016, I went to Brtonigla for a media presentation of the new Peugeot 308 GTI, and I was so amazed by the overall experience of that one day I spent in Istria that I wanted to repeat it. So, a couple of months later, I took my equipment and went there.
I decided to visit nine places that week, and I kinda fell in love with that kind of exploration. It made a promise to myself that I had to repeat it as soon as I could!
Well, seven years later (yes, SEVEN), I ended up in Istria again for work, this time in Rovinj. During a walk around the old town, I asked myself, “Does this place actually exist?” Everything looked so beautiful, and I was angry because I felt like I was missing so much. One week later, I was back there with my camera, and one week after that – Croatia Captured was born.
I had to wait seven years to discover that I love mixing travel and photography. I guess, better late than never!
Here are nine random photos I took that weekend when I got back to Istria.
As I’m reading this text, I realize I didn’t write a clear answer to the question in the title. Honestly, I don’t have a simple answer. I just feel comfortable there; it is beautiful, it is close to my hometown, and it has so many places waiting to be explored and enjoyed… I’ve just started.
